With Junkies pick he now owns the only two major league players with the first name Orlando. Anyone else think his team should be co-named Orlando, Junkies and Dawn? What's great is that neither of these guys actually plays on a team right now. Baseball is colluding against Orlandos........

Not after Capps went in the first round. Not a chance. Capps is the man, and more importantly he's guaranteed saves. Devine and Gonzalez will have to win the job.

Capps is guaranteed saves for the first week of the season. Fill in the blank: _____ will steal the closer role from Capps after the 1st week of the year. Capps numbers don't look awe-inspiring. A 3.02 ERA, .97 WHIP (pretty damn good), 39 K's in 54 IP, and 21 saves. People don't seem to remember that he was out for aboug 45 days with a right shoulder injury, then came in Sept. for 10 IP with 7 K's, 0.87 ERA, 0.48 WHIP & .139 BAA with 4 saves. Means he came back & showed that he is still effective after the injury, has 30 save potential even with that bad team, and still has awesome control. He also throws 95mph, no matter what Buckner says. His ADP this year is the 13th round (somewhere between pick 156 - 168), and I took him as the 176th pick in this league. Fantasy baseball sites I have read have said he's very nice value in the 13th round as well. So poke fun all you want, but I went in last year with 2 closers, and I'm doing the same this year. How did last year turn out?

99 ks in 176 innings isnt bad for someone who"doesnt strike out anyone. Dude Jamie Moyer thinks 99 K's is for pussies. LOL, there are RP's that can record 90 K's for you without stealing a single start. How is 99 K's from a SP value? That's more like negative value, since you would then need to have good RP's to make up the difference per start between him & the average SP in the K cat.

How did last year turn out? I like Capps, so I'm not hating on him or the pick at all, but you know he could have 45 saves or 6 this year. It's that way with almost every closer in baseball. To answer your fill in the blank.....anyone on the Pirates roster. All you can try to get are guys that start with the job.

No closers are guaranteed anything at the beginning of the year except the first shot to close games. Semantics! Alright, come on, of course he's not guaranteed anything, in the same sense Pujols isn't guaranteed to hit 20 HR because he might get injured or he might decide to bunt every other AB. None of us are guaranteed anything in this life, it's our job to make each opportunity count, and blah blah, do the best you can, etc etc. Capps is a proven gamer and will have a longer leash than 75% of the other "closers" in baseball. The fact that he plays for a non-contender means there won't be any pressure even if he hits some rough patches. He was a great, great pick in the 1st round, the best closer left, arguably a better pick than Mariano or Fuentes.

Sooooo, you were just arguing semantics then? Doesn't that apply to just about any player at any position. Obviously, a little more extreme for closers, but leeway is given as far as the track record of the player as well as who the other options may be. Huston Street better watch his back, while Mariano Rivera has a long leash. The same goes for players such as any rookie that comes up with the Angels. After a very solid '07, Rich Hill was given 5 starts before he was kicked to the curb last year.
Point being..WTF was your point? Everyone knows that a closer that's garaunteed saves won't be garaunteed for the entire year. Lay off the mary jane, or smoke some more if you're in such need of a deeper meaning to everything, even statements about closers.

Matt Capps always goes into the 10 items or less isle with a cart full of stuff, and never returns videos re-wound to the beginning. Fuck him.
