Before too many trades start going down can we decide next year's draft order?

I used DraftPickLottery.com (I think the same thing we used last year.) Weighted Lottery Picks (# of balls reflects reverse order of finish) : Attachment DeletedDraft order: Attachment Deleted This ok with everyone? The rest of the draft order would be reverse order of finish of teams #1-#8. -Matt

Aside from the actual results, which gave the 8th, 9th, and 10th place teams the 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall picks, it looks fine to me.

Just so we are all on the same page, I know that the MLB draft is non-snaking next year, but does the MiLB follow the same pattern? Just making sure...

I was under the assumption that neither drafts would snake

Yes, both drafts are non-snaking, same order every round.

Hogwash! I imagine the chances of this actual draft order were well under 1%.

I can't tell if you're genuinely questioning the process or if you're just being cheeky The odds of any given draft order were about .01% Still, this was a less probable outcome than most other possibilities. We can change this if we don't like it, not set in stone in my opinion until someone makes a trade based off the results.

Every other rule change takes place the following year, so I can't see why this one would be any different.

Not questioning the process, just don't like the outcome.

You'll never have a system (or result) that satisfies everyone. For years, it was 100% certainty that the team finishing 9th got the first pick and the last place team got the 5th pick. If we had attempted a system where the last place team picks first, it would have encouraged, if not outright tanking, at the least, giving up and trying to secure a better spot.
Going to this current setup is a middle ground, where there is a chance that the last place team could pick first or the 9th place team, albeit with increasingly harder odds. This essentially removes the impetus to let your team fall apart for the sake of getting a better draft position. The fact that the draft results don't meet expectations should not matter. That's why we call it a 'lottery'.
I am all for tweaking the system to make it better for competition, but those are things that need to be voted on for next year's draft. Perhaps we should have multiple lotteries, with smaller groups in each. Maybe the 12th-16th ranked teams get pulled, then the 7th-11th, followed by 3rd-6th, and then the runner up and winner? That would minimize the effect of getting really 'lucky' and 'unlucky'.
