“I’m the best corner in the game. When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree, that’s the result you gonna get. Don’t you ever talk about me. [...] Don’t you open your mouth about the best or I’m gonna shut it for you real quick.”

We cannot expect players to be intense maniacs and the turn it off in minute.
I personally hate the use of the term thug for him.

We cannot expect players to be intense maniacs and the turn it off in minute. I personally hate the use of the term thug for him. Sent from my XT1056 using proboards "Thug" kinda fits. He's cocky, he gets in your face, he talks smack, he'll push you around, and he rubs it in when you lose. Doesn't mean he's a bad person, it means he's intimidating and he thrives off making his opponents feel that way. Whe he equated it with the "n-word," that seemed pretty far off base. Thug is a word I've used to describe a particular click of kids I went to school with, based on their arrogance and willingness to start a fight, 99% of whom were white. Not to mention the most common use of "thug" in sports, which refers to hockey players who agitate and start fights, 99% of whom are white.

My first thoughts are that he is not wrong about it being like the n-word--because the response was very racially motivated after the interview.
Come to think of it I am not sure I have ever used the term to describe anyone who was not black---usually as you describe a click of kids. I have never referred to Hockey players as such--though I rarely refer to Hockey in any context:)

I agreed that his assessment of thug being substituted for the n-word was spot on. I hear people use it, and I can usually tell what they really mean by their tone and body language. I don't think Sherman had anything to apologize for, but he did it anyway. To me, that's not a thug; that's pretty classy.
At the same time, is Sherman's cocky attitude regarding his own ability acceptable to people because he backs it up? D'Angelo Hall is just as cocky, but we all think he's a punk...

I know there are some Seahawk fans here, but to hell with it... I'm expressing my opinion on this dude. I think that Sherman's a bona fide, 100% assbag. Yeah, he's good at playing football, probably one of the best in the game. And his story is nice and all, but his classless attitude towards his peers speaks volumes. His 'apology' was likely prompted by the team to put the fire out before they get to the Super Bowl. Even if it wasn't, you can't just un-say shit. In my opinion, he is far worse than Chad Johnson, Terrell Owens, and pretty much all of the other shit-talkers that have come before him. Although, looking at the head coach, I guess the nut doesn't fall too far from the tree.

The Broncos will rush for less than 50 yards. Manning attempts over 50 passes and throws at least 2 picks. The Seahawks will go big on their first play from scrimmage, and the Broncos will have a trick play when they're down late. Russell Wilson will be player of the game with unspectacular stats, something like 20-26, 240yds, 2TD/0INT, or it'll be someone in the Seahawks secondary. 24-16 Hawks win.

Richard Sherman to Michael Crabtree: "Hell of a game. Hell of a game." Michael Crabtree to Richard Sherman: " " (no one knows; meanwhile, he stiff-arms Sherman's face mask, pushing him away) Richard Sherman to himself: "What the hell? What a punk kid doing that....Hell I only predicted this in the huddle less than two minutes ago, and I was 100% correct, but I still wanted to be a sportsman. And he's going to do something like this?" Sherman didn't do or say anything wrong at the time, but Crabtree may have said something that sparked a brief tirade. We don't know that. I think Sherman could have thought for a second before going off, but it was the heat of the moment and he was reacting after a very proud, very hard-fought game at home. He deserves to be a little jacked up, don't you think? Doesn't he deserve a pass? Nah, people call him a thug (PC replacement word for the forbidden, despicable other word) and rant on Twitter -- aka the digital trolling grounds for secret racists/hillbilly pieces of shit all over the world. Every media cycle is all over this, and the Broncos have instant billboard material. But there is NOTHING this man did wrong. Nothing at all. He was respectful to Crabtree, got shit for it, and he went off because that's the last thing he expected. Crabtree acted like some little brat and Sherman didn't like it. He ranted, but big deal. It was a minor goof. He didn't curse, he didn't act "crazy," he didn't say anything that any other elite athlete doesn't currently believe about himself. He was frank and he was jacked up in that moment. I strongly disagree with anyone who calls him thug or another name. It's terrible that it would even be considered. In fact, now, I may consider buying that guy's jersey. And the only jerseys I own are of the following players: Mike Ditka (replica) Walter Payton (replica) William Perry (worn chiefly when I was over 300 pounds, and with good reason) Matt Forte Joe Montana's ND jersey (my older brother went to ND, so piss off... I have a soft spot for it) Gale Sayers (replica) Dick Butkus (legit)

Well, you seem pretty certain that Sherman didn't antagonize Crabtree all game long and then made sure that he patronized him after losing. I guess if you are going to base your entire argument on that one snapshot of an exchange, then you are correct. What he said didn't warrant the reaction from Crabtree. However, based on the overall data (Sherman's documented history of being an ass), I'd play Devil's advocate and say that Crabs might have believed that Sherman was rubbing the loss in his face.
I'll agree that he's smart. I'll agree that he's a great player. But you used the word 'respectful' to describe one of his actions, and that I can't agree with.

Right after a guy just lost the NFC Championship and is walking away from you isn't the time to run up from behind him, saying, "Hell of a game. Hell of a game." Leave him the fuck alone. Text him later if you want. Go celebrate with your teammates. Nobody's first reaction is to run after an opponent who you just beat on the final play, unless your intent is to rub it in.

Sherman was wearing a microphone throughout the game, and the words that recorded during the incident were, "Hell of a game, man, hell of a game." So what if a defender antagonizes a wide receiver all game long. It's football, not a class on manners and etiquette. Smack talk will be exchanged, and I'm sure Crabtree does it back to Sherman, too. But in that moment, those words above were the words that were recorded. If dudes want to act like brats and shove someone in the face, oh well. It happens. But don't act like Sherman did something so crazy that he needs to be lowered on the respect scale for any reason. It was an intense moment, big deal. The funny part about that moment was Erin Andrews' response.
