2017 marks the 10th season of The Sandlot, and I think at least most of us want to continue playing in the league for many more years. Most, if not all, of us agree that the best features of the league have been the salary component, the deep rosters, and the minor league system. As we move forward, I want to get the league back to its former glory, if you will. So, I want to start the discussion of The Sandlot's future and present a few options.
1. We can do a "soft reset", where we simply select our 14 MLB and 10 MiLB keepers and reinstate the rules we previous played by, including player salaries and the salary cap. 2. We can do a "hard reset", where we keep a small number or no players and draft fresh under the old rules. 3. We can go "GOP nuclear" and start from the very beginning, all the way back to the franchise draft.
The league has seen a gradual decline in activity and maintenance over the last couple of years, and I'm looking to reverse that trend. By presenting these three options, I'm not looking for what's "fair" to any particular owner(s). Most or all of us have felt negative impacts of the recent decline. What I'm really looking for is for the league to be fun again, and so I want for us to decide on the option that represents that. After all, it's a game. A game that some of us have played together for a decade, and to me, the most important thing is to keep the group together. I think we've developed some camaraderie within the league, and even formed some friendships. We've talked shit to each other and been around for important moments in each other's lives. In that respect, this league remains very dear to me, and I'm re-upping my own commitment to it.

I'd vote to make this a money league. I think it would increase the activity quite a bit. There have been several times where I got too busy to pay attention to this league, but my $ league never suffered in those instances. I know Colin (and maybe others) don't like to play for money but it would make it 'real'. The sidebets we make don't work, people don't pay. I'd suggest PayPal, and mandatory $30 entry fee. It's not much and we could pay $300/$100/$50 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and have more interest, more fighting at the top, more trades of vets to contenders going for it, so more talent/value trickling down to the non contenders. I could be totally wrong but it would change how I prioritized the Sandlot. I guarantee if there was $300 on the line we wouldn't have half the league not notice that Aaron Judge was free. I like playing for the love of the game too, I love the unique format, I love the friends I've made more than anything, and I'm not going away regardless, but there's no denying activity is at an all time low, time to start thinking about other options.

Voted, but with my lack of commitment to returning at this point, I'm willing to "un-vote" in the case of a tie or some other situation where my vote makes a drastic difference to the future direction.

I'd definitely be out if it became a money league...but I do think that usually helps keep people very interested, so that'd be an option that could certainly rejuvenate the league (which I think is what folks are looking for). Good suggestion, even if it's one that would have me leave.

You're not the only one, I've tried this several times in the past decade and it never passes. It's all good I totally understand and hope you stay.

I'd put $30 or $50 or whatever in to play, but we just haven't had enough interest in doing that. I don't think even half the league would be up for that, whether it be for financial reasons, ideological reasons, or whatever. I do think I want to buy a trophy that we can pass around every year, with each winner being added to the trophy after each season. The most current winner would get to keep it all year before sending it on to the next winner, like the Stanley Cup. I'd be happy to pay to ship it each year.

Money league: If it's required I'm probably out, my team needs a few years of rebuilding and I don't know if I have that patience and time. Unless we did something with payouts for other stuff, like category leaders, where even the worst-off teams could recoup some of their buy-in.

If we become a money league I'm out. Sorry, but it's absolutely no fun for me to play for money. I only play because I hate every single one of you and want to see you lose.
EDIT: I thought about it and changed my vote to Full Nuclear. I'm not invested in my team...I'm invested in this league. I really want to continue playing against you guys, and I think Full Nuclear is the only way for this league to go forward fairly. What happened this offseason decimated some teams way more than others, and after a good 10-year run I think we should start over. In fact, I think we should start over EVERY ten years.

I'm with Walker. He and I had our seasons decimated by the MBL draft and I have little to no desire to even compete in this league this season. I didn't even care that Judge was available simply because I don't think there will be another season. I have zero chance of winning this season without a trade and no one seems to have any interest in doing that either.
So what's the point?
Anyone want my MiLB picks? They're all up for grabs

I voted for option #1 but I'm down for #1 or #3. Like Colin, I just want to stay with this group.
The issue with any of these options is who's going to do the work? We have a league set up that doesn't fit into any current platform, so we have to wing a lot of it. Even going nuclear will require a lot of work to set up a draft, new rules, etc. We want it simplified right? We still have to define how.

Nevermind, after thinking it over I think the only choice is full nuclear. This year is lost, the draft was fucked, we probably won't have everyone returning, and it will be easier to bring in new folks if they get to start from scratch.

I also voted for Option 1 originally, but I'm also for switching to full nuclear status...

Five members other than me still need to weigh in. Everyone should have a say in this one.

There will some things I'd like to delegate so that no single person is responsible for everything, but I'll definitely take care of the initial set up, once we've decided the route we're taking. I would like to continue the league much the way it is now, though figuring a way to do a live draft in a single night is at the top of my wish list.

I'm just reconfirming that I am out. I think full reset is the only way to go, and I don't think I have it in me to start from scratch.

We could create an ottoneau league through fangraphs, or a similar dynasty league service, fill out the league with friends. Each manager pays up front in ottoneau, I don't know about any others. They have their own valuation systems and most (all?) make long-term retention of a player very difficult. We'd have to learn a new system.
We could maybe Franken a league together with someone else in our situation. There has to be a similar enough league with difficulty holding on to managers. Hopefully they have a good commish. I've seen league opening postings in lots of places but its hard to know what's legit. Seems most cost money and work through one of the established league services.
Or we could set up an ESPN league with the remaining mangers and maybe some friends with: -a dynasty-level number of keepers and roster spots -dedicated minor leaguer roster spots -no salaries -Maybe if we get off our asses we can organize a good 'ole fashioned slow sandlot draft, a franchise draft? -If we work within ESPN's system it does all the work. We could even do the quick and dirty draft if desired.
