I don't have the ability to create a "Winter Meetings 2010" thread, but that doesn't mean we can start discussing these topics.
After you vote it would be helpful to explain why.

I voted for $5 million to cover what I believe will be at least a $40,000 increase per player based on MLB's salary increase. Lots of players are getting huge contracts and this will help all teams be able to spend more effectively. Also a $130 million payroll isn't fairly average compared to all the 30 teams. Granted, on the average scale its leaning toward the higher side but I think it's still manageable and allows all GM's to spend a little more for riskier, big-contract players that probably aren't worth their contract in this league, i.e. JD Drew, hell he's not worth his contract for the Red Sox, that guy is the most boring batter in baseball. He can strike out or hit a grand slam and his reaction is the same. He's lame and I can't wait to get him off the roster so we don't have to keep paying him to play on the DL.

I vote no change. Only a few teams had salary cap issues last year and lower payroll=more challenge. Besides, trades with cash involved have already occurred and it seems like changing the cap now changes the values represented in those trades.

And I don't think MLB salaries have changed enough over the past couple years where an increase is needed here.

I voted for an increase because the minimum salary is going up, average salaries were over $3M for the first time at the end of a season last year, and because more players are getting bigger contracts earlier in their careers.
A $5M increase is only 4% of our current payroll. Given that salaries went up almost 2% from 2008-2010, and look set to increase at least another 1-2% from 2010-11, I don't think 4% is extravagant.

I am with Ayala and Spackler on this one. Nobody is getting squeezed as it is, so if we are voting for an increase to prevent that from happening, then why not just eliminate the cap altogether

Regardless of how this vote turns out, I think we should try to answer only one question per poll in the future.
Instead of yes or no AND how much, maybe just a yes or no poll, then a separate poll to decide how much IF there is an overall yes vote.

I just assumed a "no" vote is the same as voting for a $0 increase, right?
In each previous year, Mack just declared a new salary cap and new minimum, so this is at least a little more democratic.

Only Mack hasn't voted, and he's not going to be back on until Jan 8th.
So we can go with the current majority (8 out of 15) and say no cap increase, or we can wait for him to vote. Even if he votes for a $10 mil increase (which I'm pretty sure he won't,) the average vote would then be around $3 mil.
Personally, I think with half the league voting for no increase, the choice seems clear.

So now that's settled, are we, like th MLB going to increase our league minimum? Since the MLB minimum didn't increase from 2009 to 2010, I don't think ours should. I was going to do a poll, but I wouldn't even know what to suggest as an increase.

It will increase (to $414,000) in 2011, however, so I think we should consider raising our minimum to $414,000 for 2012.
