Obviously Volquez isn't dropped....whats the story is he hurt or did Josh push the wrong button?

My next guess is hammered. The 4:15 am add Brandon Wood drop Edinson Volquez has jaeger bombs written all over it.

I'm pretty sure you can just give him to Baseball Junkies if this really is a drop.

I'll clear the air here, or at least try to. I'm guessing that Rat Bastards dropped him from his team and added Brandon Wood because I hadn't accepted the ESPN trade giving me Volquez. I was waititng to see the verdict on whether I can have Grenike and his stupid broken rib on my DL and not have to drop anyone. If what we're doing in this scenario is just dropping the players that should start on the DL, Wainwright, Johan and Grenkie, i'll drop zach later today and put volquez on my team. I'm currently waiting to get one of my wisdom teeth pulled so I make some stupid decisions later this afternoon....
No jaeger bombs, I can't stand that stuff, just mis-communication.

Like Josh said, I traded Volquez for picks and I just wasn't sure if he wasn't getting on the ESPN site to accept the offer there or what or what the deal was. Sorry again about the confusion. Jaeger Bombs can have that effect, but I usually stick to the rule of not drafting or dropping drunk. Or at least I try to.

I think we may be getting into a gray area with the DL exception, maybe we should put some specific guidelines for next year, like a cut-off date for the injury, what types of injuries, and what level of certainty that they'll start the season on the DL, etc.

That's why I hadn't dropped Blanks or Aardsma.

If we all stuck to posting EVERY transaction here, there would never be any questions about who was on the DL and who was dropped. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case here for a while and I don't think there's any way to enforce it.

Sure there is. If it isn't written here, it never happened. Make that be known. The first time a guy drops a good player on ESPN without posting and loses him to waivers will be the learning curve. We should be using ESPN for the sole purpose of tracking our stats. Of course, that's just my opinion...

Since nobody wants Edison Volquez, I added him to my ESPN roster, an HE will stay on my team.

We should be using ESPN for the sole purpose of tracking our stats. Of course, that's just my opinion... Well we've always sort of done the opposite. The game primarily gets played on ESPN, and in theory we only use pro boards (listing our pickups and drops and their salaries) as spreadsheet salary info, a place to track the MiLB, and a place to draft. If you want to make a MLB pickup, you need to do it on the ESPN site, then as soon as you can post the info here. Disputes in the past where a player was added on ESPN by one owner and on proboards by another owner have gone to whoever added him first on ESPN (I think). Other than this weird pre-season DL thing (which I think we should just get rid of next year due to confusion) there's no reason any player should be dropped for any reason other than the owner no longer wanting the player.

I have to agree with this statement. I think that it would be valuable to tighten the Sandlot rules that if a player has a season ending injury prior to the start of MLB season, and that player is worth keeping than that player sits the pine with a roster or DL spot. Owners take the risk of keeping such a player, and I don't think the team should be rewarded when holding on to a star player who is injured with a free bench spot. It is fantasy baseball, it's the breaks. This can exponentially become worse if the team that holds the right to a season long injured player, gets a free roster spot and then trades that player before the start of the new season for draft picks. Does anyone else agree with my thinking, or see the issue with this? I don't agree with loans in the context of fantasy baseball.
I am not sure how this loophole developed, and it is confusing. If he is not Milb material, and is available to be claimed by someone who is willing to sacrifice a spot, then it makes sense to me that an owner of the injured player be held to the same standards.
Enjoy the weekend all!

Well it's not really a free roster spot. As soon as the season begins all the owners will have to add the players back on their rosters and use the DL spot for them, just like the big clubs. The temporary pre-season DL thing is just to give some teams roster flexibility for players that are 100% gauranteed to go on the DL.
We're really doing the same thing MLB is doing since they don't need the DL yet because their rosters are still huge for the pre-season. Wainright, Strasburg, ect will not be sitting on waivers all year.
I don't really care either way because I don't think it gives anyone a huge advantage since they're already down a keeper, but if we did away with it just to keep things simple I'd be fine with it as well.
