The programming isn't the issue...it would be getting the stats ported to the site. Right? That would be the most difficult part. I would guess ESPN has to purchase rights to the stats. If we could get that figured out, the rest is doable. The internship I have over the summer will be mostly programming in C#, VBE, and .net. I might look more into it once I get into that more.

We just need to create our own fantasy baseball league that accepts all the parameters we want to eliminate the two site dilemmas. One that will keep track of our salaries, minor league players, and regular players. Yes. I vote for this. It would be the baddest-ass fantasy baseball league on the planet.

1) WE MAKE PROBOARDS POSTS REQUIREDPros: * No more "exceptions to the rule", as all transactions are recorded with timestamps. * No time wasted in searching for transactions that do not exist. If the player is not taken in PB, he is available...period. * Clearly settles the "who gets player X, I took him on ESPN and someone else posted that they signed him on Proboards" dilemma. Cons: * We must post every transaction in PB to ensure that we alert everyone to our intent (we are supposed to do this anyway). * We must visit both sites to make the transaction complete (again, we are already supposed to do this as well). Ok, we already require proboard posts, but a couple things: -ESPN is the definitive site for who is on your MLB roster. For all other issues (minor leaguers, options, salaries, penalties,) we use Proboards. We use the ESPN timestamp because of clock issues we've had in the past with proboards, and because there's no way to have an invalid MLB roster, accidentally or otherwise, on ESPN. If two managers try to add the same player at the same time, one on ESPN and one on Proboards, ESPN wins out. We do that because the ESPN page has a rigid clock that turns over at the start of the first game each day, and if you're trying to make a last-second add you have to make sure it's taken care of on ESPN first. The worst-case scenario with the way that we run it now is mass confusion and mayhem. The worst-case if we made Proboards the only point of reference would be that you pick a guy up and miss a day or two of his stats until you find the time to actually pick him up. I cannot stress enough how bad this would be. If people pick up someone on Proboards and don't add them on ESPN for days, you'd have to bounce back and forth even more between sites to see who's available and who isn't. And if someone misspells a name and they don't come up in a search, we'd have scenarios where people are adding players when someone else owns them and it would be a huge mess. "ESPN is the definitive site for who is on your MLB roster. For all other issues (minor leaguers, options, salaries, penalties,) we use Proboards." Right, so there is no definitive site. That's exactly the problem.

Neither ESPN nor Proboards is capable of being a definitive site. So unless we create a new site that meets all our needs, we have to keep going as we have been, which isn't all that bad.

I still think ESPN should be the first move for any MLB transaction, since that's where the active available player pool is maintained for everyone to see. If I need a player at a certain position, I'm going to ESPN to check it out. And assuming I have plenty of cap space, I'm not going to wait the extra 5 minutes to check salary and post to proboards and risk losing out on the player.
That said, I do think it's important everyone post transactions on proboards, and I don't think a penalty of losing the player for failing to do so is too harsh. To me it's reasonable to expect someone to post the transaction that same day, though not necessarily within an hour. That's the game we signed up for by joining this league.
Besides, the Utley situation isn't exactly common. This usually becomes an issue with MiLB eligible players, like when some idiot tried to pick up Lance Lynn last week. And for those players I agree w/ Turk that your exact intentions should be posted to proboards if calling up or sending down a player. But for MLB only players, if they aren't listed as available on ESPN I don't bother going to proboards to double check and just move on to another scrub.

And how did the Utley problem even come up again? Shouldn't all DL players be added right away with the others so they can be moved to the DL? Scott Baker ended spring training on the DL and he was always on my roster...

Nellie just forgot to add Utley after the season started.
So of course Hit-N-Run added a couple guys today and moved a couple other guys to the DL without posting anything. What should we do about it?

I don't know what we can do about it given that we don't really have a rule set in stone about posting transactions to Proboards. Perhaps we need to figure out a rule and vote on it. On our Rules page, it specifies under Salary Cap Rules that "You'll have 24 hours after being notified of any salary cap or roster infractions before penalties will be assessed. All penalties will reduce your cap number for the entire season." This isn't really a salary cap issue, but perhaps we could notify Steve and give him 24 hours to fix it before assessing a penalty?

ESPN is the site where we have the counting stats........all MLB eligible players need to be on rosters. We have run into some glitches that need to be fixed.
The first glitch was Brett Myers.....MLB eligible player who was drafted one week after the draft was completed. I think this needs to be addressed........Time frame given if you don't make your last pick or two.....what is the shut-off period where you can't make your last pick?
Jonathan Broxton........not counting DL eligible players we need a date established when all drafted MLB players need to be rostered on ESPN. Time frame when they become free game to everybody?
DL eligible is simple.....once the season starts and the team has that said player on the DL they must be added to your team.....Time frame when they become available?
peace to all
