Nice one. When the season began, I bet nobody picked Russell Wilson as the rookie QB who would go furthest in the playoffs.
One team in DC shuts down their stud and gets knocked out in the first round of the playoffs; another team in DC plays their stud and gets knocked out in the first round of the playoffs while watching their stud get re-injured.
I wonder if the same people who were ripping the Nats for shutting down Strasburg are now ripping the Redskins for playing RG III?

Since we probably have a while before Shannon makes his pick, what do y'all think about the Konerko pick? I was hoping he'd last a few rounds because of his age and price, but I don't think there was a better bat available in the draft. 30hr, .290/.380 seems like a lock.

If Konerko had made it to me at 8 or 9 or wherever I'm picking, I would have taken him even with the offense I already have. I agree he's probably the best bat available.

I think there are bats almost as good as Konerko's available, but not at his price. Mark Teixeira or Ryan Howard could turn out to have comparable years, but who wants to pay them $10M more than Konerko? I really liked that pick, especially with the seeming dearth of decent corner infielders this year.

Colin, you're right. When I said "best", what I should have said is "most valuable".

At this rate, I won't be making my first round pick until Thursday.

Seeing that Teixeira has a .256, .248, .251 averages over the last three years to go with diminishing OBP's, and Howard's are even worse, I'd say Konerko is a better bet to be more valuable than the other two. There are a few guys out there that can give you 30 HR's that hurt you in average. Nobody out there can give you Konerko's probability for a high AVG/OBP combo to go along with solid Run/HR/RBI production. The salary savings is just icing on the cake.
Also doesn't hurt that Ruck is a Chicago fan.

If I've learned anything since "The Great Alex Gordon Debacle," it's that the top pick needs to be the best pick, and that pick might also have to be the "safest" pick. Konerko has some issues but I think a rebound (and my 1st Sandlot title) is coming.

Lightning tickets flying off the shelve.... wWe raw freaks stinking up the box office....And I was praying Paulie would fall to 4. Konerko is a beast, I hate him...... Jermaine Dye and Tad Iguchi equally.

Did someone say this draft was short on corner infielders? Someone better take Ryan Howard soon.

Ryan Howard? Let's talk about A-Rod. Is the guy even draftable this season?
Will anyone pony up $29M for half a season of a 37-year-old 3B coming off his second hip surgery?

I wonder how many of the players I didn't keep will be taken in the first round ... I'm taking over under at 5.
I'm guessing over ...

What do you think the $8 at the end of Papelbon's 2012 salary accounted for, a pack of smokes?

Konerko was tough. Thought for sure I could get him back. Should have kept him, but was hoping for a long term payoff over a short term guy. I'm obviously a few years and solid keepers from respectability.
