Im glad LaRoche lasted this long. Obviously 1b is pretty deep, but hes relatively cheap and consistent. And hes prolly the last lb of his tier.

Eh, I'd put Giambi ahead of him, but his salary is what makes him fall so far. Whoever can afford him though, will have a much cheaper Giambi next year, if he ends up worth keeping.

I echo the sentiment for another 7th-round MLB pick that Buckner suggested. I have an extra 3rd-round MiLB pick and a later MLB pick (round 10 or 11) if anyone's interested. Let me know.

Giambi: $21 million for 2008, $4 million for 2009.

If only MLB contracts could be renegotiated like they are in the NFL (performance-based, other factors, etc.), these wouldn't always be ludicrous. And don't forget Giambi was a MONSTER when he first donned the pinstripes; there was no way (pssh) the Yankees could know he'd hit some disastrous DL time with injuries, surgeries, etc.
His 2008 wasn't too shabby, either. I'm kind of glad I stuck with him.

Value is relative to the team. For your team (or mine), his $21 Mil this year makes him a pretty weak value, but to another team that has money to burn, and there's plenty of teams like that, the $21 mil will have no bearing on his value, only the numbers he puts up. Also, like I said, if that team is weak in keepers since we're expanding to 12 next year, his $4 Mil cap hit next year makes him a little more attractive.
All in all, he's still a tier above Adam LaRoche.

Yea you prob got much more then expected from him. Im sure for whoever can afford him they will get decent stats. I cant, so he was out of the question.

Moving from Yankee Stadium to Oakland may not be kind to his power numbers...and his average could drop even lower. Though he will still produce and maintain a solid OBP.

All in all, he's still a tier above Adam LaRoche. I don't see it. All their stats were close last year, so factor -The park effect, Oakland vs Yankee stadium -Moving to a weaker lineup -The natural degading of skills and power due to age I think LaRoche is the better option. If he can avoid a slow start he can hit 30 HR .285/.370, and you'd be lucky to get that from Giambi.

Can it, Buckner....haha. Geez.
LaRoche vs. Giambi isn't a thrilling debate by any means. I'm more interested in the Adam & Andy factor, seeing as the brothers playing there in Pittsburgh reminds me of little league baseball with my older brother.

Anyone want to talk deals? I aim to acquire another eighth-round pick either before or shortly after my 8.7 pick. Let me know if there is interest as I can package two picks or an MLB + 3rd-round MiLB package (extra pick from Soze).

Maybe I shouldn't have talked about Matt Joyce a couple pages earlier, huh? He was drafted earlier than expected, but I can't blame Mamas for nabbing him. Now if only we can be sure he'll start...
Crawford -- Upton -- Joyce? It seems to make sense, considering Hinske is gone, but the team signed part-timer Gabe Gross to a one-year deal also. I hope Joyce pans out and gets the PT he deserves.

Haha, we both stunk to high heaven, so I don't know about that.
YOWZA I want Puckettiers online to make his next pick. I have a good'un and want to get it out of the way so I can focus on a few trade talks I have going.

Seeing the Rays being aggressive now and landing some names, making waiver claims, and signing short-term deals makes me think the club and its front office have matured in recent years.

With Friedman running the show, their organizational philosophy seems to be Boston-lite. Leading edge statistical analysis, shrewd trading, strong MiLB foundation, and smart free agent investments. Wait, shouldn't that be every organizations philosophy?

Um, yeah! One would think so, anyway. I would use that philosophy if I were in a big league front office.
